Upstream Co-founder and
Executive Chairman of the Board

Marco is Upstream’s Co-founder and Executive Chairman of the Board, driving the corporate development agenda of the company. Marco served as Upstream’s CEO until June 2017. Prior to founding Upstream, Marco was a marketing strategist with Omnicom, WPP and IPG, where he developed global communication strategies for brands such as Nestlé, SmithKline Beecham, Johnson & Johnson and Sony Electronics. Marco is a partner at BigPi Venture Capital and an active angel investor and member of the board in technology companies such as Persado, Workable, Hellas Direct and Softomotive. In parallel, Marco is the President of SEN/Junior Achievement Greece and a Board member of the Hellenic Federation of Enterprises (SEV), of the Foundation for Economic and Industrial Research (ΙΟΒΕ), of Endeavor and of the research and policy institute diaNEOsis. Marco has been awarded with the EY Greek “Entrepreneur of the Year” award, in 2013. Marco holds a BA in Politics and International Studies from Warwick University and an MPhil in European Studies from Oxford University.
Alex Vratskides

In his role as Board Director, Alex assists the management team with Upstream’s corporate development. His current operational role is CEO of Persado, a leading cognitive content platform, which he founded. He co-founded Upstream in 2001 and served as the company’s CEO from 2004 to 2012. Prior to Upstream, Alex worked as a management consultant at OC&C/McKenna Group, based out of Boston. He is the first angel investor for Lulu, where he is also a board member. Alex holds a Bachelor’s degree in Applied Mathematics from Columbia University and a Master’s in Operations Research from Cornell University.
Dimitris Maniatis

Dimitris Maniatis

Chief Executive Officer

Dimitris is Upstream’s Chief Executive Officer responsible for further expanding Upstream’s growth by leading its new innovative products to market. He joined Upstream in 2017 to head Secure-D. Under his leadership Secure-D has grown into an award-winning, carrier-grade security platform, trusted by 30 mobile network operators in emerging markets. Before joining Upstream, Dimitris was in advertising through ‘all things web’, the digital marketing agency he founded in 2009. In 2014 ‘all things web’ became part of IPG and was relaunched as Reprise Digital Greece, member of the global digital marketing agency network of IPG. Dimitris holds a degree in Software Engineering, from the University of Manchester, in the UK.
Ken Campbell

Ken Campbell

Ken Campbell has served in senior leadership roles with telecom operators in North America, Europe and North Africa, with a strong strategic, commercial and operational focus. Most recently he was Directeur General for INWI in Morocco and co-founded Mobile Klinik, Canada’s leading smartphone and table repair network. Previously he served as CEO of Ooredoo in Tunisia, Wind Mobile in Canada as well as Bite in Lithuania and Latvia. Prior to this he held Commercial and Marketing chief positions for Vodafone, Ooredoo, and Orascom. Cumulatively he has over 20 years of hands-on commercial experience having, throughout his career, worked for and with many major mobile operators. Ken holds a Masters in Business Administration from London Business School in London, UK and a Bachelor of Arts (Honours Economics) from Carleton University in Ottawa, Canada.
Hossam Aboumoussa

Hossam is a Partner at Actis, the leading investor in high growth markets. He joined Actis in 2006 and is based in Cairo. He is responsible for origination, execution and managing transactions in Financial Services with a focus on Africa as well as South and Southeast Asia. Hossam serves on the Boards of a number of companies and has played a leading role in a number of Actis’ investments including Fawry (Egypt’s leading electronic payment network) as well as GHL Systems (independent payments company in Southeast Asia), Integrated Diagnostics Holdings (leading medical diagnostics business), Commercial International Bank (largest commercial bank in Egypt) and Emerging Markets Payments (first Pan-African payments platform). Hossam has 20 years’ experience in growth markets’ private equity. He is a CFA charter holder and holds an MBA from the University of Oxford and a BA in Business and Finance from the American University in Cairo.
Guy Krief

Guy served as Upstream CEO until December 2019 and during his tenure he led the successful transformation of the company. He joined Upstream in 2004 and since then held multiple Product and Innovation roles including Chief Innovation Officer. Guy co-founded Persado, a Bain Capital Ventures backed company, where he served as the company’s SVP of Product & Innovation, in charge of product management, algorithmic research, and software development. He has followed a diverse career path, which has seen him own a French pastry shop, found a messaging start-up, write and star in his own TV comedy series and host his own radio show. He was also previously a marketing manager for Wanadoo, France Telecom, in Paris, which became Orange. Guy holds a Master’s degree in Social Psychology from the Sorbonne in Paris.
Natalie Kolbe

Natalie Kolbe

Board Member

Natalie joined Actis in 2003. She was the Partner responsible for the South Africa and West African offices. In 2016 she took over as Head of Private Equity across all regions and sectors, encompassing LatAm, Africa and Asia. Natalie started her investment management career at Investec Bank in 1999 where she was part of the team that established Investec Asset Management’s investor centre. In 2002 she joined Thebe Financial Services, a stock broker providing clients with dealing, research and portfolio management as a stock analyst. In 2003, Natalie joined Actis and was a leading member of the deal teams who led the acquisition and portfolio management of Alexander Forbes, Paycorp, Tekkie Town, Savcio, Tracker, Coricraft, Mouka Foam, Upstream, Vlisco and Sigma Pensions in Nigeria. Natalie holds a BCom from the University of the Witwatersrand, an MBA (Cum Laude) from Wits Business School and is a CFA charter holder.
