Updreamers: Upstream's volunteer team, implemented its first initiative in Africa in partnership with Kids Haven

Johannesburg, Athens, September 12, 2024 – Updreamers, the volunteer team of Upstream, successfully launched their first initiative in South Africa, marking a significant step in Upstream’s corporate social responsibility program. This impactful action was conducted in close collaboration with the non-profit organization Kids Haven, which is dedicated to providing comprehensive care and support to 145 vulnerable children in residential care. In addition, more than 30 children are enrolled in preschool, who are bussed in daily to participate in the wide range of educational and developmental activities offered by the organization.

On Friday, July 26th, ten dedicated team members visited a local kindergarten affiliated with the organization, Kids Haven Nursery school, which falls under Kids Haven’s 1st pillar of care, pre care (preventative care). Following comprehensive training, they divided into groups to assist in implementing the children’s daily program. This visit marks the beginning of a long-term collaboration with Kids Haven, the first of many initiatives designed to empower and support the children’s growth and development. Upstream’s commitment to building a lasting relationship with Kids Haven is driven by a shared vision of creating a nurturing environment where every child can thrive.

The first group gathered in the library, where they warmly welcomed the preschoolers and read aloud to them, sharing both classic and contemporary stories that nurtured the children’s imagination and love for reading. Meanwhile, the second group organized and participated in face-painting activities, creating vibrant designs on the children’s faces, which brought smiles and excitement all around.

Simultaneously, the third group focused on preparing a wholesome and nutritious lunch for the children, ensuring they were well-nourished and ready to enjoy the rest of their day filled with activities and play. This harmonious effort demonstrated our team’s dedication to fostering a joyful, creative, and healthy environment for the young learners
